Futures Trading Journal Template

When I first started trading, I made one of the biggest mistakes a trader can make: I didn’t write anything down.

I thought I could “remember” my trades, the setups, the mistakes, the wins. But after a few weeks, everything blurred together. I knew my PnL… but I had no clue why I was winning or losing.

That’s when I forced myself to build a proper trading journal. And honestly? It completely changed the game for me.

Now, I want to share the same tool with you.

Why You Need a Trading Journal

  • Patterns – You’ll start to see what works for you (and what doesn’t).
  • Accountability – No more hiding from bad trades; it’s all written down.
  • Growth – You’ll be able to measure your progress and improve faster.

A journal isn’t about making every trade perfect. It’s about learning from every trade.

📊 My Free Trading Journal Template

I built a simple but powerful Excel / Google Sheets journal that I use myself. Here’s what it tracks:

  • Date & Time of trade
  • Prop Firm account (TPT, Tradeday, etc.)
  • Instrument (ES, NQ, CL, etc.)
  • Long or Short
  • Entry & Exit
  • Stop Loss & Take Profit
  • Result ($ and R multiple)
  • Notes (setup, emotions, mistakes)

And yes — it includes a dashboard with:

  • Win rate %
  • Average R:R
  • Cumulative PnL
  • A clean equity curve that shows your progress

🖥️ How to Use It

  1. Download the template (Excel or copy to Google Sheets).
  2. After every trade, log it right away (takes less than 1 minute)
  3. sdfsd At the end of the week, review your journal. Look for recuring mistakes or winning setups.
  4. sdf Adjust – Improve – Repeat
